If you are an over 40 (or 50) woman who doesn’t want botox or cosmetic surgery and prefers DIY skin care, you’re going to love this. I honestly think this is the best natural anti aging skin care routine.

I’m not a needles girl unless I’m getting more ink (ha!) but I’ll be honest. I did get some Botox and a small filler back in Mexico in 2020.

Did you know that botox in Mexico is actually super common and super cheap. Many people flock from the US to get cosmetic surgery/plastic surgery (as well as other surgeries) in Mexico because it’s so cheap.

Americans are traveling abroad to save anywhere from 50% to 80% on medical and dental procedures. In Mexico, root canals are 80% cheaper and in vitro fertilization 75.5%. Americans travel the globe to save on medical and dental procedures. An interactive map shows where they go.

Anyway I hated it, the doctor was not very friendly, I didn’t get the results I was hoping for and I never went back. I’m not a fan of expensive skincare products that promise to make you look “15 years younger in 2 weeks.”

Use this night cream! This is the best eye cream ever! Oy…just stop. Now I won’t say that all store bought creams are bad. I’m not a doctor. Some of them have key ingredients, especially the ones we are looking for.

These creams include:

  • glycolic acid
  • hyaluronic acid
  • salicylic acid
  • lactic acid (most top dermatologists swear by this key ingredient)
  • Vitamin E, Vitamin B, Vitamin C serum
  • alpha hydroxy acids
  • collagen
  • retinol serum

Now while these are most likely the key ingredients in many store bought products wrinkle cream, I wasn’t really interested in putting any of that on my face except maybe the Vitamins.

Fun side note for you > Hyaluronic acid — also known as hyaluronan or hyaluronate — is a gooey, slippery substance that your body produces naturally.

One more fun side note > Collagen production in our bodies – Collagen production also requires nutrients like zinc that is found in shellfish, legumes, meats, nuts, seeds, and whole grains; and vitamin C from citrus fruits, berries, leafy greens, bell peppers, and tomatoes.

That’s when I decided to look into how easy it would be to just make my own skin care using all natural ingredients and begin a daily routine that will produce results!

I think I have it down to a fine science now..haha!

But maybe some of you gals don’t mind the odd shot of Botox and that’s cool. Judge free zone babe!

Please make sure you are visiting a doctor who has great credentials and reviews. Read the reviews! You don’t want to be on an episode Botched. Trust me on that!

How Can I Treat My Aging Skin Naturally?

First of all, it’s important to determine your skin type. Here are a few factors you need to check:

  • sun damage (caused by too much sun exposure)
  • mature skin (dull skin)
  • dark spots (age spots)
  • oily skin/dry skin (possible uneven skin tone too)
  • sensitive skin
  • appearance of fine lines (a lot or very little)

So it’s important to know what type of skin you have before you start buying/growing/making or picking natural products! My skin is weird.

I have oily skin and I have acne-prone skin too but it’s also sensitive skin. I know, so weird. I have a ton of sun damage/dark spots and of course, I have fine lines and some deep wrinkles like the nasolabial fold and the 11’s, called the glabella.

My skin drives me crazy and it has my entire life BUT I tell you, these past 5 years as I get older, regardless of the wrinkles and folds, I have to say my skin looks pretty damn good!

Now if you have dry skin you have a whole other slew of problems and skin conditions that require way different care than mine does.

The Causes of Premature Aging and Wrinkles

I think this is important to discuss, even though some of us may already know this, it never hurts to talk about it again.

I want to share some of the causes of premature aging and though you may have this, it’s not too late to stop the aging process or maybe even reverse aging if only just a wee bit.

Not only that, if you eliminate some of the things from the list below, you’re pretty much doing a great service to your overall health and well being.

Some things that cause premature aging:

  • sun damage (which also causes skin cancer)
  • drinking (promotes premature aging and wrinkles)
  • smoking (dull skin, sunk in cheekbones, lip wrinkles)
  • environmental damage(outdoor pollution, smog, sun, etc)
  • diet (too much sugar, high fat greasy food, etc)
  • stress (causes physical and mental issues)

Now if you are doing any of these things, or can do something about any of these things…well. I say no more. I’m not your mother/doctor/husband/etc. I’m not here to lecture you. I’m here to share cool things with you.

I think the most important step in any health regime is to eat a healthy diet, get some exercise in and make sure you are getting the proper vitamins and minerals.

How to Start Your Anti Aging Skin Care Routine

Listen, changing anything in your life is hard and scary. I get that. And because it’s hard and scary, simply getting started seems like such a huge undertaking. So we put it off again and again and again.

I’m the queen of procrastination. True story. But I’ve come a long way though. Now I talk myself into starting new things because I’ve convinced myself it’s gonna be so exciting and awesome.

Girl, self talk. It works.

So if you want to know how to start your anti aging skin care routine, here are a few tips that will help you.

  • set a date on the calendar
  • do some research on your skin type
  • find the right products for your skin
  • clean out your kitchen if it is full of unhealthy foods
  • do a few patch tests to make sure you aren’t allergic to anything new you’ll be trying
  • start with a friend for accountability (if this is something you need)
  • set up an exercise/workout schedule
  • check with your doctor before starting anything new

Now I know that list probably seems a tad overwhelming but what you’re doing also is this. You are completely overhauling your life and health to age gracefully, maybe even slow down the aging process and definitely to look younger, no?

Remember change and starting something new is hard and scary and can be a tad overwhelming. But also remember all the amazing health benefits you will experience!

The Best Natural Anti Aging Skin Care Routine

I want to share with you some awesome skincare tips, some super awesome natural ingredients to use, and a few other cool things. This might be long so I’ll break it down into easy bite size sections!

Before we start our daily skincare routine, here are a few checklists for you!

Natural Ingredients For Your Shopping List!

After you’ve determined your skin type, did a patch test and checked with your doctor you’re ready to shop! Here’s a list of some things you should buy/grow/make/etc. Keep in mind you certainly don’t need ALL the things on the list.

  • Almond oil/jojoba oil/coconut oil/avocado oil/rosehip seed oil to cleanse your face with (carrier oil-key ingredient for gentle cleanser)
  • Essential oils to add to your carrier oil – these include Lavender, Rose, Lemon, Frankincense, Rosemary, (to name a few)
  • Aloe Vera (pure gel is best) (or get a plant!)
  • Baking soda (helps slough off dead skin cells)
  • Turmeric
  • Small spritzer bottle (to mist your face)

While the carrier oil may be a tad expensive, keep in mind you only need a teeny amount each time you cleanse your face so one 8-10 oz bottle should last a really long time! Make sure you do your research to make sure you get the best oil for your skin type.

The spritz bottle is to mist your clean face when you’re done. My bottle has cucumber and water in it but really just Google what type of spritzer would be good for your skin type. Maybe your spritzer will just be distilled water and a couple of drops of essential oil.

Test and test some more!

I can’t stress enough how important it is to know your skin. Because my facial oil is constant I cannot use coconut oil. My skin produces so much natural oil it doesn’t need a heavy oil like that.

Making the Switch to a Healthier Diet

Time to clean up the kitchen and cupboards. Sorry not sorry. But not only your diet but your lifestyle habits too. Here are a few questions you should ask yourself:

Am I exercising enough?

Am I drinking too much alcohol? (be honest)

Am I eating healthy enough?

Am I eating too much sugar? (sorry…kinda)

Am I hydrating enough?

Seriously. This is the only life you have. You don’t get another one. Take a sneak peek into the future you want. Do you want to be falling apart at the seams, totally unhealthy, maybe even dying in a hospital at 60 like seriously!!!

It’s not too late to start taking care of yourself. Take your health and your life more seriously. You need to take care of yourself girl.

Tips to Get Started and Ready For the Best Anti Aging Skin Care Routine

A skin care routine is more than just what you put on your face. It also includes what you eat, what you drink, how much or how little you move and so much more. Everything you do shows up on your skin.

Don’t forget that!

With that said, you’ll now understand why the following tips include more than just

Kitchen first – clean out the junk food, sugary treats and all the other crap in there that is absolutely horrible for you.

And don’t tell me it’s expensive to eat healthy. Go to the farmer’s market or a discount grocery store to get your fruits and veggies. It’s costing you your life to eat unhealthy.

Make an exercise routine – if you haven’t done that yet, make a plan. You don’t even have to go to the gym. There are so many amazing and free workouts online over on YouTube.

Google and you’ll see. Start moving! You might really like these guys! Even if you hate exercising, at least try and move a bit each day, please.

Find DIY sites You can find some great recipes for face cream, eye cream, face masks, wrinkle cream, etc. YouTube has thousands of awesome vids to watch too. You can check out some of my beauty videos here.

I make face masks once a week though I would love to do twice a week. I really just forget but my face always feels amazing after and has a lovely youthful glow!

Your Daily Natural Anti Aging Skin Care Routine

Before we dive into this I just should say that this is my daily skincare routine and it’s the best way for me. These are just tips I’m sharing. Take what you want, leave the rest, test stuff out.

All the health and fitness stuff however, everyone can do and should include in their new daily anti aging skin care routine. You can thank me later when you start to see the difference in your skin.

1.Morning routine first thing in the morning, drink a glass of water with lemon or ACV in it. Then off to the bathroom we go to gently wipe the sleep off our face using a warm wet cloth, nothing more.

2. Then gently massage your mixture of carrier oil and essential oil using sweeping up motions, lightly massaging the eye area, downward strokes on the neck. You can let this sit for up to 30 minutes.

Mmmmm feels and smells so good!

3. Gently pat your skin dry leaving it ever so slightly moist and then either apply pure aloe vera gel (if your skin type can handle it) or get out your spritz bottle and mist it lightly and let it dry naturally.

Also to note, in the morning I make a super healthy smoothie with blackberries, strawberries, cacao powder, turmeric, collagen powder, peanut butter, ginger and water. Girl…. so yummy!!

4. Evening routine is basically the same as your morning though I do leave my oil on a little longer in the evening. Up to 2 hours. When I wash it off (remember, gently!!) I always follow up with my aloe vera gel for added skin barrier to hold in moisture!

I also try to stop eating or drinking anything other than water by 6 pm, all depending on what time I go to bed.

5. Once or twice a week I do a 30 minute fask mask- You can find soooo many homemade face mask recipes online. Ooph. You can check out a few of mine here or really just Google that.

6. On alternate days I use a baking soda/coconut oil face scrub to exfoliate some icky dead skin cells and brighten my complexion a bit too. If you do this, please make sure ONLY once or twice a week and so gently, I really can’t stress THAT enough.

I just added the face scrub recently to my natural anti aging skin care routine and I’ve really noticed a difference in the texture of my skin and brightness. Def do try it but be gentle!

Important note to mention – after your face scrub, don’t apply anything too harsh to your face. Even aloe vera gel might be too much. I would say lightly mist with water/cucumber mixture and let it alone.

What Does Your Daily Anti Aging Skin Care Routine Look Like?

That basically is my skin care routine. So simple and affordable and it works!! I do have wrinkles but not nearly as I think I should have for my age!
